The first church of Beadnell was a small chapel on the rocky point known as Ebb's Nook, near to the harbour. This ancient chapel was replaced by another which stood on the green between the two rows of houses in the village, probably very near to the present church. In the early eighteenth century this was little used and was in poor order.

ST MICHAEL'S ALNWICK |
The first chapel recorded on this site is 1174 AD, but it is thought that there could have been a chapel as far back as the 8th century. The church suffered damage from many of the border clashes and the lookout tower provided early warnings of the raids. It was in 1464 that Henry V1 decreed in a charter that it should be rebuilt. The major part of the building still relates to the 14th and 15th centuries. Restoration work was undertaken in 1825 and 1860 but not until 1880 was structural work done to the main building. |
